The Yale Center for British Art Rare Books department holds selected
sales/auction catalogues from Christies Sothebys
and other houses dating from the mid-18th century to 1900. See the
Sale Catalogue cards at the end of the Rare Book card catalog in the
Reference Library.
Additional auction and sale catalogues are held in other libraries
at Yale. A large collection of book and print sales catalogues (Yale
classification X346) are held by the Beinecke Library. The Seeley
G. Mudd library holds book art furniture etc.

SCIPIO: Art and Rare Books Sales Catalogues
SCIPIO provides bibliographic access to valuable sources of information
on the provenance of art objects and rare books the history
of collecting and contemporary and historical market trends.
SCIPIO describes art and rare books auction sales catalogues dating
from the late sixteenth century to currently scheduled auctions that
have not yet been held. Records contain information on dates and places
of sale catalogue title the auction house sellers
institutional holdings and other information.
Getty Provenance
Index
The Getty Provenance Index a project of the Getty Research Institute
accumulates and disseminates information related to the history of
collecting and the provenance of individual works of art. Maintaining
several electronic databases as well as nonautomated material on the
history of ownership of works of art (primarily European paintings)
gathered from sales catalogues archival records and museum
files the Getty Provenance Index provides scholars and museum
curators with important information about the history of taste and
collecting.
